The Logan County Dog Warden is Deputy Benji Avila. He is an 11 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. He was assigned to the Dog Warden position in 2009. Deputy Avila works Monday thru Friday from 7:30 to 3:30. He can be contacted thru the Sheriff’s Office at 592-5731. You will be prompted to leave a message. If the call is in reference to a dog bite or vicious dog advise the Communications Officer and they will dispatch the Dog Warden or a Deputy depending on the hour of day.
Confinement of Dogs- O.R.C. 955.22 (Running at Large)
The owner or keeper of every dog shall at all times keep such dog either confined upon the premises of the owner or under reasonable control of some person, except when lawfully engaged in hunting accompanied by an owner or handler. The penalty for this violation is a maximum fine of $100.00 plus court fees.
Registration of Dogs- O.R.C. 955.01 (72 Hour Violation)
Every person who owns, keeps or harbors a dog more than three months of age shall on or after the first day of preceding December but before the twentieth day of January of each year, file in the office of the Auditor of the county of which the dog is kept or harbored, an application for registration for the following year, beginning the twentieth day of January of that year. If your dog has been impounded
The Logan County Humane Society houses all dogs impounded by the Logan County Dog Warden. You will be required to show your dog’s current dog license or purchase one in addition to paying redemption fees. Residents may also bring a stray to the Logan County Humane Society. The Logan County Humane Society is located at 2521 US 68 N, Bellefontaine, Ohio. They can be contacted at (937) 593-4277. Hours of operation Monday, Wednesday Thursday, Friday 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturdays 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Closed Tuesdays and Sundays.
If you have found a dog
You can contact the Logan County Humane Society or the Logan County Dog Warden. After regular business hours contact the Logan County Sheriff’s office and if the dog does have a valid dog tag the Communications Staff may be able to advise the owner’s name.
